The ‘98 bus tour with a local historian tour guide has a 1798 rebellion theme running from the outset. With stop offs at Gorey Hill, where you are introduced to the notorious Yoeman Half-Hanging Hempenstall. Clogh, the hanging bridge where many rebels were executed by British forces during the uprising. Boolavogue, at the Fr. Murphy Centre, a museum dedicated to the life of the rebel leader Fr. John Murphy. Oulart Hill, the site of one of the battles won by the rebels during June of 1798. Vinegar Hill, another battle site, this one being the place where the two battles occurred.
The rebels were defeated here and as a result the rebellion was quashed. The tour then proceeds to The 1798 Rebellion Centre in Enniscorthy, here you can experience the rebellion whilst taking part in interactive exhibitions and tours.
The tour concludes with a visit to Ferns Castle where our tour guide will explain the significance of this historic castle. The ’98 Tour gives great insight into the events leading up to and that occurred during the uprising and gives you an oppurtunity to expand and broaden your existing knowledge of the 1798 Rebellion in an interactive and amenable atmosphere. The fee also includes admission to all museums and centres etc.
